Scuba Diving Spotlight: Beqa Lagoon, Fiji

October 3rd, 2009 No comments

The South Pacific offers unparalleled scuba diving sites and experiences. Today we’re shining the spotlight on one of Fiji’s most popular dive sites, Shark Reef.

Dive Site: Shark Reef Marine Reserve

Where: Off Beqa Island, Fiji

What: A huge shark feeding known as “The Big Fish Encounter”. See all kinds of shark species in one place -- blacktip, whitetip, silvertip, gray, nurse sharks, lemon sharks, tiger sharks and bull sharks. You’ll see lots of fish too, but everyone comes here for the sharks.

When: The best time to go is between July- September. You’ll avoid the rainy and cyclone (hurricane) season and have the best visibility.

How: Take an international flight to Nadi Airport. From there, Beqa Lagoon is about 150 km away by road. You can stay at Beqa Lagoon Resort, or on the main island of Viti Levu and arrange for a pick up with a dive shop, such as Aqua-Trek or Beqa Divers.

Why: If you still need convincing (I’m not sure why you would), check out this YouTube video:

Since I already did a post on Halloween Costumes for Infants, I might as well list some costume options for pets as well. Nothing beats dressing up your dog as another animal, right? Here are some Polynesian-inspired options for your best friend.

After looking around the internet, here are some cute options if you’re looking to dress up your infant for Halloween this year.

Barracuda Cufflinks and More…

September 3rd, 2009 1 comment

There’s something about cufflinks that I really love.  They lend extra sophistication to an outfit, while also allowing the wearer to express some personality.  Although cufflinks are more common for men than women, there are some women’s shirts that can accommodate them, which allows cufflinks to be an equal opportunity accessory.  I love wearing cufflinks to work, so today I’m sharing some cool aquatic animal cufflinks I’ve found at cufflinks.com:

Barracuda cufflinks – I gotta be honest, when I’m diving, barracuda scare me more than sharks.  With their fearsome teeth and potential for quick movement, they can be pretty intimidating – at least more so than the usual reef sharks I’ve encountered.  Thankfully, these cufflinks are quite harmless :)
